Irshad Khan | Fellow Sept 2021-2022

Mentor | Fardeen Veljee

In Irshad’s own words (some translated from Hindi):

“The program is too good. I have attended all the classes, and I have learned a lot of things from the school. Meeting all the people from all the states, coming here, getting together, talking about all the places, everywhere. It’s good.

The Goa School was very different, certain timings had to be followed. You have to come on time to classes and other things. Prior, I was doing a taxi business, here in Goa. Whenever I was getting a call from a customer, I would lack punctuality and always be late. I had no sense of following a schedule. Before I was always (thinking) like, “Let it be, I’ll do it tomorrow.” When I attended classes at The Goa School, we had to reach on time. I stopped making excuses for myself and started becoming more proactive.

My mentor, Fardeen Veljee, met with me in Goa. He told me about his business in Goa. I would ask him why he was planning on going to Dubai, in spite of having a business here. He would reply saying how he wanted to see a change in his life. He inspired me. A guy who has got everything here in Goa, yet wants to go abroad to see what is out there. The Goa School taught me to convert my mindset, to want to go everywhere, check it out, see what other opportunities are available.

Another speaker, Nitya Jacob, was researching on water. He said how we are currently wasting a lot of water, and that in the future, water would be less accessible. So I learned not to waste water, and about water conservation. Saving water is a concept that I will definitely remember for life. It is a very important topic, and I believe everyone should learn about this one.
