Simran Varma | Fellow Sept 2021-2022

Mentor | Anita Khemka

“The most spellbinding thing I learnt at The Goa School was the power of storytelling and articulating your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that not only inspires those who hear it, but also encourages them to reflect on their own lives from a newfound lens.

The mentors spoke on various topics, yet their stories have stood out the most—the events that pushed them to invention, the challenges that they had to overcome to achieve their goals. It is incredible what can be achieved when six people from different social locations come together to learn and unleash years of conditioning.

If I were to rephrase my answers again, I would say that the most spellbinding
aspect about the school is the inclusive, diverse approach with which it engages
with difficult concepts. Everyone is leaving The Goa School with a lesson about relationships, life, careers, and the world. This in itself is an important achievement.

Personally, I have learnt to look at myself differently. I am grateful, I am motivated, but mostly, I am inspired. (Read Simran’s poems and other writing.)

I am looking forward to seeing this school grow and help young people think about
their lives and the world around them differently. This is a great place to
understand the brilliance of people, their courage, and stories.”
